Four months of sweetness!
Four months ago two little people came into our world a few weeks earlier than planned. Looking back it's been the slowest and fastest four months. I find myself looking at them thinking how is it possible I carried two people, had a major surgery, survived a month in the NICU and now there are two of them laying and squealing on our living room floor!
Two happy and healthy little girls who have changed our lives. It's pretty sweet!
Mom fail moment: I've realized I never did their 3 month update. This will be a combination post of 3 and 4 months.
We took the girls to the doctor this past week for the 4 month check-up and shots with Dr. Woods. He basically confirmed what we already knew. They are doing great! Both are gaining weight like a normal term baby and I believe his words were they are doing excellent! Kennedy is weighing in at 10 lbs 10 oz and Kinley at 10 lbs 9 oz. The best news of the visit was that we don't have to go see a developmental pediatrician and they are no longer taking their reflux medicine. We will see if that last part lasts!
My favorite part of this visit also included being able to look over the 2 month milestone list and be able to say they are doing those things now. We, okay I, can't get hung up on the fact that they aren't doing things as fast as Claire did, which I am totally guilty of, but watching them at their own pace is so fun.
Over the past two months the girls have done so well. They are sitting up in their bumbos, playing on the floor, doing better at tummy time (still not a favorite activity), loving listening to music and kicking their feet, taking a bath, swinging in their swings and listening to us talk.
They have been eating really well every 3 hours still during the day. I can say we are still going strong with the breastfeeding and pumping. Something I never thought we'd be able to do. I won't lie- I'm just about over it. It takes a lot of work and time to feed two people! I'm just glad they will take a bottle!
Warning! Sleep talk: Skip over if your baby isn't sleeping!
They've also been sleeping really really great! I usually have a rule about discussing sleep patterns for fear that one of my friends isn't having that great of luck, but you were warned. These girls sleeping schedule has changed drastically over the past few months. We were spoiled from the NICU and they got them on such a great schedule. Through month two and into month three I thought we might just all die of sleep deprivation but we prevailed and made it. A few weeks ago we started skipping the 11 pm feeding and just letting them sleep. They were waking up between 2 and 3 nightly. Within the past week they've stretched that to going to bed around 9-9:30 and sleeping until around 5 am!
WHAT! Sleep! Sweet sweet sleep! It's a glorious thing and I think they are enjoying seeing how great the back of the eyelids look. I know I am.
My favorite things they are doing are smiling and getting excited to see us. They have the biggest toothless smiles that started during the 3rd month and have now added in a little laugh sometimes. They are making more noises and just squealing at random times when we are playing on the floor. They also will follow people in the room. They can see us better and start moving their arms and legs when people are close to them. They also do this when they see food in sight!
This past month my least favorite thing was the cold they both had. It was awful. We spent a good amount of time using saline, the NoseFreida, elephant humidifier, and their elevated rock n plays. After two weeks and a doctors visit it finally went away.
Claire is still loving them and wanting to help with them. She will show them books, grab their "plinkeys", tell them they are okay, smooch them goodnight and recently tried to give them a bottle.
Watching all 3 of our girls grow and thrive is such an amazing feeling! We love them all too much!
