Last year we made the most hysterical plans. We planned to go to the new Disney resort on Oahu, Aulani, over Christmas.
We planned this adventure before we knew there were two girls growing and then kept the reservations for a few months until one day we decided that wasn't ever going to happen. Even if I was still pregnant I wasn't about to get in any bathing suit and go sit by the pool to watch everyone else go down slides, play in the pool and drink yummy drinks.
We all know the end of that story. Reservations cancelled and baby girls born in November. Christmas consisted of a lack of sleep due to the insomniac we brought home from the NICU and one baby hanging out 5 minutes away.
Fast forward a few months, Pop gets a new job in South America requiring a layover in Honolulu, and we are right back at our original Christmas plans. This time minus Kim, but she had come in a few weeks earlier. We booked a lovely villa at the Aulani and prepared for our fun weekend. We always joke that since my dad's first trip to Hawaii he has seen the inside of our lovely home. In my defense, he seems to only come when we have had a kid or two. {We did go to the Big Island last Thanksgiving with him!}
Cabanas were booked, character breakfast was booked and thought of the pool and spa filled my head. All of which would have been fabulous had 3 of the 7 of us not been sick. Claire, Justin and Pop at some point during the weekend were having a rough go of it.
Claire started a fever on Thursday. I thought it was due to the extreme heat we had just endured at Sea Life Park, but apparently it wasn't. She didn't want to get out of bed on Friday morning and she didn't want to eat her breakfast. I thought maybe she was just upset that Justin wasn't going with us right then because he had to go to work. We loaded up the car and headed out.
As soon as we got to the Aulani our room was ready! We got everything put away and got dressed for the pool. We took the girls rock n plays for under the cabana, Claire grabbed her float and out we went. Once under the shade (and listening to the construction!) we got all sun screened up and I was ready to get in the water. Claire not so much. She was crying but finally got in the water with Tutu. Once she was in she was fine! Splashing around, kicking, drinking pee water. It was fabulous. Until it wasn't. I took her under the cabana after shooting the lovely picture below and took her temperature. 105 degrees. Seriously! I about died. I splashed her with water and made her drink. After a few minutes it went down a little and then came the medicine, which brought on the need to nap. Up to the room we went and left Pop and Tutu with the little girls.

Justin arrived and told me he wasn't feeling great either so he'd sleep with her and I could go back down. I happily skipped down the hall to the pool where I lounged and drank some lava flows. That evening we went and ate at the buffet. We've been a couple times before and Justin can put down some food there. I knew he wasn't feeling good when he ate pineapple. Just pineapple. I {for real can't believe I was but I was} so annoyed that he was acting like a baby. This relaxing weekend wasn't going like I planned. We did go over to see what the movie on the lawn would be for the night. It was something weird though and we quickly went to the room.
I spent the night awake Googling what happens if a fever gets too high and worried she was going to have a seizure or something crazy. I obsessively took her temperature and gave her Tylenol every 4 hours when her fever would spike again. I just let Justin snore in hopes he would sleep whatever it was off.
The next morning we got up and Claire didn't have a temperature. Hooray! We went to breakfast and then to play in Aunty's Beach House! So fun and a must do for kids 3 and above. Claire didn't want to leave.
After our quick playtime we headed to the pool and beach! Claire is finally really liking the beach and digging in the sand. She even ventured out in the calm lagoon. {It's almost time for orders. Time to pray we just get to stay here!} She wasn't a fan of the kids splash pool. I think because it is so loud and the water comes down so hard! She saw it and instantly started screaming.
For sure a beach babe :)
On Sunday we went to the character breakfast. Last year we went for Claire's 2nd birthday and she loved it. She hugged them and gave them five. Not this year though! Not even a smile. Hopefully we can go back with everyone feeling 100% and it will be more enjoyable.
Thanks for the mini vacation Pop and Tutu!
I can say I enjoyed getting my first rays of sunshine in about a year. My tan is coming back!
